Camden Bentley, Kaleb Nastari Enjoy Record-Breaking Performances At Ohio State Meet

By Mary Albl of DyeStat

In her final prep state meet, Gahanna Lincoln’s Camden Bentley made a clear statement she’s one of the best hurdles in Ohio state history.

At Jesse Owens Stadium in Columbus (June 2-3), the University of Kentucky-bound Bentley charged her way to a 100 hurdles division and state record, clocking 13.27 seconds (current US#4) in the prelims and winning in 13.34. She added a victory in the 300 hurdles (42.02) and ran on the winning 4x400 relay (3:49.38 ) guiding her team to a repeat Division I state championship with 50 points at the Ohio state track and field championships.

In the sprints, Springfield Local (Holland) junior Maira Scott won the 100 (11.42) and 200 (23.20), good for US#10.

In the distance events, Katie Clute of Olmsted Falls, who will run for Oregon in the fall, won the 1,600 (4:45.89) and 3,200 (10:18.50).

Claire Dunn of Shaker Heights won the 400 in 54.45 seconds after not advancing to the final last year.

Watkins Memorial’s Victoria Harvey cleared 13-3 to claim the pole vault title.

In the boys team race, St. John's of Toledo claimed the team title with 35 points, sealing the victory with a 4x400 victory (3:13.94) with Joseph Taylor running a massive anchor leg for his team.

Syracuse-bound distance runner Connor Ackley won the 1,600 (4:07.10) and 3,200 (9:05.50).

DJ Fillmore  of Licking Heights set stadium records in the 200 (20.80), after 20.71w in the prelim, and long jump (25-0.25).

Troy Lane of Pickerington Central, one of the fastest sprinters in state history, ran 10.44 to win the 100 meters and 21.29 for third in the 200.

Division 2

Marengo Highland senior Juliette Laracuente-Huebner almost won a team title all by herself. Laracuente-Huebner won an impressive four golds to score 40 points, good enough for Division 2 runner-up honors, behind Woodbridge's

Laracuente-Hueber won the high jump (5-10.75), long jump (19-11), 200 (24.23) and 100 hurdles (13.64).

Alexa Fortman of Ottawa-Glandorf won the 400 (56.21) and 800 (2:09.96), the only female runner to dip under 2:10.

In the distance events, Bella Butler of Oakwood, the D2 cross country champion, won the 1,600 (4:49.01) and 3,200 (10:49.66).

On the field, junior Morgan Hallett of Norton won the discus title with 170-8, a new stadium and meet record. Her mark is a current US#4. She finished second in the shot put.

The Glenville boys repeated as Division 2 champions with 60 points.

In the throws Dillion Morlock, junior from Norway, set a record in the shot put (65-0.25) a top 15 mark nationally. He also won the discus with 180-2.

On the track, Solomon King won the 100 in 10.34, faster than the D2 state record, but was wind-aided, so not eligible for a record.

Division 3

Middle-distance star and Penn-State bound Kaleb Nastari of United was perhaps the biggest standout of the entire meet. He ran the fastest in the 800 meters in state history, clocking 1:48.31, defending his D3 title. The US#1 800-runner surpassed Nick Plant's 1:48.65 time from 2022.

Cole Miller of Paint Valley also had a big meet, winning the 100 (10.75), 200 (21.80) and long jump (23-5.50).

In the team race, Marion Local  boys tallied 38 points for the title.

In the girls race, Woodmore’s 37 points was enough for the team title, edging out  Norwayne’s 34 points.
