Steiner continues to shine at Ohio state meet

Abby Steiner made sure her outdoor state track meet was a memorable one. After suffering an ACL injury over the summer -- forcing her to miss soccer and ease into track -- the junior sprint star from Dublin High picked up right where she left off, winning the 100 (11.61), 200 (23.56) and running on the winning 4x200 relay (1:38.34) at Jesse Owens Stadium at Ohio State in Columbus, June 2-3.

Steiner's 200 time was a state meet record and her third straight title.

"The feeling is indescribable, accomplishing all of my goals in my favorite meet of the year,” Steiner told the Columbus Dispatch. “The 200 was the most meaningful record because, frankly, I didn’t expect it. It was just as thrilling coming back in the relay."

Sophomore Olivia Howell of Solon clocked an impressive 4:43.25 to win the 1,600 crown. Senior India Johnson of Hillard Davidson won the 3,200 in 10:23.84

While Steiner was the highlight of the day for the Division 1 meet, the Withrow girls won the crown with 58 points.

For the boys Division 1, Thomas Worthington won with 36 points. In the distance events, senior Hunter Moore of Olentangy Orange clocked 8:58.47 to win the 3,200. Winchester's Lonzell Feagin won the 100 (10.68) and 400 (47.31).

In Division 2, the Dunbar boys edged out Warrensville Height 33-30 to win the team crown. Wayne Lawrence Jr of Meadowdale set a divisional record in the 200 (21.29) and won the 400 (46.67). He was second in the 100 (10.79), while Demetri Keaton of Warrensville set a state meet record, clocking 10.57.

On the girls side, Beachwood won with 35 points. Freshman Makiya Montgomery of Beechcroft was one of the standout performers, winning the 100 (11.98) and capturing second in the 200 (24.8).

In Division 3, Anna girls scored 38 points to win, as Minster came in a close second (36). McComb senior Molly Leppelmeier threw 49-6 to set a new state meet shot put record. She added a discus title, throwing 159-11.

Maumee Valley junior Emma Daugherty cleared 5-9 to win the high jump.

Mason Warnimont of Cory-Rawson clocked 10.91 to win the 100 and ran 21.75 to win the 200. The East Canton boys tallied 49 points to win.
